Fishing

Some good news for fishers prepared to rug up and head out between squalls with plenty of fish being caught in close.  Snapper, kingfish and a few john dory are all being caught around the Mercury Islands, around the edges of the bay and along the coastline from Kuaotunu to Optito. They’re in really good nick and some big fish are being caught around the Alderman Knoll.  There are also some good size albacore out there and although none were landed, several broadbill bites have occurred in the last week or so.  Winter fishing at its best !!

Rugby

The first All Blacks vs Ireland test match is on tomorrow (Saturday) with kick off at 7.05pm.  Come down and watch it on the big screen and enjoy a drink and/or meal with friends at the same time.  We’ll also run a sweepstake so you might be lucky enough to walk away with a few bucks.

 New Season

Today (July 1st) is the first day of our financial year and, of course, the new fishing season. Please pay your subs before you go fishing and remember all those pins are up grabs again along with points for the trophies and of course club records.

Winter Tuna Tournament

This tournament starts today (July 1st) and runs until the end of August.  There have been a number of southern bluefin tuna and albacore caught around the Alderman Knoll over the last week or so.  Hopefully they’re all on their way here so we should be able to get a good crack at it.  Entry forms for the tournament available at the bar and on our website.

Sponsors Grid

Our Sponsors Grid was drawn a couple of weeks ago and we now have A4 and A3 copies available now from the clubrooms, or alternatively you can print a copy from the website.  The A3 copies have a small cost of $3 each for those that don’t take reading glasses on their boats.

Club Fishing Rules

We’ve also had a late addition to our fishing rules. The new rule clarifies an understanding that we thought was universal but apparently that wasn’t the case.  The new rule reads:

“A fish may not be weighed at the MBGFC weigh station if it has already been weighed at another club”  This a new rule, along with a few other changes already notified, also come into effect tomorrow.

Committee Nominations

Nominations for Committee and Officers of the Club open tomorrow and close on August 11th.  Nomination forms are available on the bar or from the office.  Please let us know if you want a form emailed to you.
