Fishing:

All the boats on the water seems to have slowed down the fishing in the bay.  People heading a little further appear to be enjoying more success.  I’ve had a couple of good reports from the northern end of Great Mercury Island and also up towards Cuvier.  There are also snapper being caught around the smaller Mercury Islands but probably not in the quantities we’re used to. There have been a few sorties out wide and we weighed a marlin a few days ago that was caught on the Alderman rise.  There were also a couple of yellowfin tuna weighed at Tairua Pauanui Sports Fishing Club that were caught just behind the Aldermans.  There have been a number of marlin caught up north now, including one by Alana Baker on Mad Max wo we’re expecting a big week out there next when we get a few boats fishing in the SUZUKI Top Ten Tuna Tournament.

Congratulations:

Congratulations to Travis George and crew on Yogi, who yesterday caught in Mad Max Sportfishing sponsors grid, the first striped marlin for the club which will also be a pin fish. Weighing in at 133.3 kg 37kg line.  Well done team.

SUZUKI Top Ten Tuna Tournament:

This 8 day tournament starts on Saturday and the timing is pretty good with a few fish starting to turn up.  Entries are only $65 per angler and we have $10,000 cash and 5 SUZUKI outboard motors to be won.  Please note that the office will be closed weekends and Stat days.  This means you won’t be able to enter this tournament before 2pm (which is when the bar opens) from Saturday to Tuesday.  You must enter before you go fishing so get your entries in asap to avoid delays or inconvenience.
