Updated Information
Due to the recent extreme weather event, and navigational safety issues this has created, the Tournament Committee and Tournament Conveners have decided to postpone the event until next Saturday 31st January. For everyone’s safety and the unknown on the roads and the water we had little choice.
Unfortunately, as per the tournament rules, (A copy of the rules were attached to the tournament information email I sent last Friday), the rule states that there are no refunds.
- REFUNDS:
No refunds are available for this tournament - once you have entered the tournament, refunds will only be available if you can find someone to replace you.
MBGFC have already committed to allocation of all funds from entries.
Any monies received for the competition has all been allocated and prizes have been purchased in good faith with the intention that the tournament was to be this weekend.
What we are proposing is that all anglers whether at briefing next Friday or not WILL be eligible for the last girl standing draw (5 draws) for the MG3 car.
In regard to lucky angler and fish not caught prizes you must be present to claim these.
Thanks for your understanding. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Junior Tournament and Youth Nationals
Friday 3rd April - 18th April 2026 (Starts Good Friday for 2 weeks)
HUNTING & FISHING JUNIOR TOURNAMENT 2025 RESULTS
The Mercury Bay Junior Tournament continues to be a highly anticipated event for young anglers in the region, drawing enthusiastic participation from aspiring fishermen and fisherwomen.
Major Sponsor by Hunting and Fishing for the second consecutive year, the tournament offers impressive prizes that motivate participants to showcase their fishing skills, not to mention the dedication from local businesses and families that help make this event great.
The event features various categories, including kingfish, snapper, tuna, kahawai and trevally providing a comprehensive platform for juniors to test their abilities across different species.
Interestingly, the "small frys" out fished the older juniors in all categories, highlighting the impressive talent and determination of the youngest competitors. This unexpected outcome underscores the spirit of the tournament, emphasizing fun, skill development, and community engagement over mere competition.
The event fosters a supportive environment where young anglers can learn about sustainable fishing practices, share their passion for the outdoors, and build camaraderie with peers.
With the continued backing of Hunting and Fishing, the tournament is set to grow in popularity and prestige, encouraging more youth to get involved in fishing activities. The tournament’s success this year promises even greater participation and memorable experiences for young anglers in the years to come.
The tournament catch of 116 fish comprised 6 kingfish, 37 kahawai, 12 trevally, 2 skipjack and 59 snapper
Another fantastic gate prize sponsored by Hunting & Fishing $10,000 worth of gear, drawn winner was won by Charlotte Runciman fishing on Black Gold, congratulations.
Congratulations also to the winners of each species category

2025 TOP TEN SNAPPER TOURNAMENT RESULTS
A windy weekend saw a few less competitors this year in the MBGFC Top 10 Snapper competition sponsored by The Stunned Mullet and Okuma.
20 – 25 knot westerlies meant that many stayed close to the coast, but it didn’t matter as some great Snapper were caught, and everyone had a good time.
A big thanks to Andrew and Lisa from The Stunned Mullet and Okuma for their support including the additional category prizes supplied by Okuma.

Looking forward to next year already!
