The Nationals kicked off on Saturday 21st February
We have had some nice fish over the weigh station these last few days, notably the following fish have qualified for pins
Congratulations to the following anglers:
Relief – Mark Phillips for his Kingfish 6.02kg on 4kg line, giving him a fight for 45mins – caught in sponsors grid Chesters Plumbing currently sitting 3rd in the NZ Champion Line Weight Anglers – Yellowtail
Smuggler – Harris Gemmell for his Blue Marlin 200.5 kg on 24kg line also will receive a 5:1 NZSFC Certificate – caught in sponsors grid Walker Electrotec
Banter – Jody Verryt for her Yellowfin Tuna 82.4kg on 37kg line which is also a pending Ladies Record – caught in sponsors grid Admiral Boats
Kingfisher – Stephen Bremer for his Black Marlin 169.2kg on 37kg line, this is the first black marlin caught since 11.01.2022 – caught in sponsors grid Bidfood Hamilton
This puts Harris and Stephen currently 1st and 2nd in Section 2 – Champion NZ Angler Blue & Black Marlin and Smuggler is currently on top to date for the NZSFC Air New Zealand Blue & Black Marlin Trophy
Mile Zero and Mad Max are up the Far North fishing the Nationals and are both boats are contesting to add to their tallies of tag and released fish for NZSFC Saul Trophy (most tagged fish of the season) and The Peter & Noeline Short Memorial Trophy (for the most tagged billfish each season) Glenn Bradley off Mad Max is currently sitting in 3rd place in Section 04B – NZ Champion Striped Marlin Angler

Big Duck – Logan Paton for his Snapper 9.71kgs on 8kg line, Logan went out solo just off Cooks Beach, what a great fish!
Offshore Classic started Wednesday, with a prize pool over $65000 – 50 boats signed up for this first ‘offshore’ classic. Unfortunately it has started slow with a couple of fish weighed on Wednesday a yellowfin tuna each for Seasic and Midnight Rider. There is still plenty of time to be in the money! First Billfish T/R for the comp tagged this morning for Recalibrate. We have had reports of hookups but unfortunately lost! The good news is they are out there! See you all for prizegiving in the clubrooms 7.30pm – any prizes not won will be drawn, but you must be there to claim them.
Exotic Caulerpa Community Workshop – Monday 2 March 2026 5pm – 7pm Clubrooms
Presented by Biosecurity NZ with Guest speakers Irene Middleton, Sophia White and Ngati Hei Interim CE Wyn Osbourne, Speaking on Exotic Caulerpa Identification, Management and an update on the activities on the Eastern Coromandel.
Nibbles, tea and coffee will be provided beforehand. An opportunity to chat at 5-5.30pm before the presentations, which will start at 5.30pm
