 Fishing:

Snapper fishing is still pretty patchy which is common at this time of year.  Most people are catching enough for a feed – there’s certainly plenty of them out there but trying to get them to bite is the hard bit.  Once again, there have been good reports from The Puddle and there are also a few good size snapper being caught in the river.  Fish has also been caught off the Whau Whau and out the back of Centre Island.

There were half a dozen or so marlin caught off the Bay of Islands and a bit further north so we must be getting close to seeing them here.  At the end of last week there was a lot of bird activity and pods of dolphins and whales in the lower half of the Ammo Dump, all the way out to the Mercury Knoll.  Further north there were a lot less birds but the water temperature climbed nearly one degree just south of the footprint.

Congratulations:

All the best to Ellery and Sheryl Whiteman who were our head Weighmasters for many years. 49 years of marriage and still going. Hope you had a good day down in Kaikoura.

VHF Channel 65:

A big thanks to Graeme, Pete, Stu, Les, Brad, Gordon and Brook for your hard work last Saturday, positioning and cementing into place, our repeater.  We need a few days in a row without rain and we can get back up there to install the aerial, get it all wired up and we will be all go with our own channel for much of the summer.

SUZUKI Top Tuna Top Tournament:

This 8 day tournament kicks off on New Years Day which is only a couple of weeks away now.  With at least $10,000 in cash, 5 SUZUKI outboard motors and various other items to be won, it should be a great tournament and an excellent way to start your year off.  As usual, entries and rules are available on our website or at the bar/office.
