Fishing Report
A bit of breeze kept most people off the water during the week, but last weekend there were plenty of people out there giving it a shot. Though most people faired pretty well, it was a bit inconsistent, with a number of crews struggling to get on the bite. There were a few really good snapper caught, as evidence by our club re-gaining the Kilwell Sports Interclub Trophy this year (well done Cody Hamilton on ‘Dougie’)
Most of the snapper caught were around the outer Mercury Islands, with a few good catches between Danger Rocks and Black Rocks. There were good snapper caught either side of Stanley Island and outside Red Merc (although some people fishing in this area didn’t do as well).
All in all, there seems to be enough snapper out there to make it worthwhile heading out in the whatever weather-windows appear in the week ahead.
Strong westerlies have seen quite a few birds working in the bay – a good sign for people chasing kahawai.
What an awesome sight for those lucky enough to see the humpback whale breaching outside Centre Island last weekend. Coupled with a pod of dolphins here at the same time – a great spectacle for people out on the water. If you didn’t get to see them, there were several videos on Facebook – it’s great to see this action so close to town.
