Fishing Report
A couple of clear days saw plenty of people heading out for a feed, and in general they weren’t disappointed. Most of the snapper were pan size or a bit larger, although we did weigh one at 8.79kg which was a good effort.
There were plenty of snapper caught on the northern side of Stanley and Double Islands and around Korapuki. I also heard some good reports from people fishing out of Kuaotunu along towards Otama. There have been people fishing just outside the river mouth and around Centre Island that are also catching a feed fairly easily. It’s looking like there are a few fine days coming up next week too, so it’s definitely worth heading out and trying your luck.
Dugald Hoyland
It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Dugald Hoyland.
Our heartfelt condolences go to his family and loved ones at this very sad time. Our thoughts are with you all, and we hope the many happy memories of Dugald bring some comfort in the days ahead.
NZSFC 70th AGM – Next Week
The Club are hosting the NZ Sport Fishing Council’s 70th AGM Friday 18th and Saturday 19th September, with the Delegates arriving on Thursday.
We’re expecting the Club to be busier than usual on Thursday and Friday as we welcome delegates from around the country.
It’s business as usual at the Club Thursday and Friday so come down, enjoy your normal Club night on Thursday and pop in on Friday as well. We’d love to see our members around the Club and help us give our NZSFC guests a warm Mercury Bay welcome.
Please note: the Clubrooms will be closed on Saturday 19th September while we host the NZSFC AGM and 70th Anniversary Awards Dinner.

Volunteers Needed – NZSFC 70th AGM
As we get ready to host the NZ Sport Fishing Council’s 70th AGM, we’ll need a few extra hands to help us get everything ready and pack it all away afterwards.
We’re starting with a bit of a working bee on Tuesday 15th from 9am for a couple of hours or so, then we’re looking for volunteers to help with set-up the clubrooms on Saturday morning from 8.00 am and pack-down on Sunday from 9.00am
If you can lend a hand even for a short while, we’d really appreciate it! Please contact Caro or Alan in the Club Office to put your name down.
NRL 1st Round of the Finals – Warriors vs Dolphins – Saturday 12th Sept at 6.05pm
It’s been great to watch the Warriors reach the pointy end of the season with some performances throughout the year earning them a home game this weekend.
This week we’re putting up a Warriors Jersey that will be won by somebody here cheering then on. All you have to do to be in the draw is to be here at the start of the game.
Grab a (free) ticket and you’ll be in to win the prize. As this year’s apparel is as hard to get hold of as hen’s teeth, the prize is a voucher for the 2027 Warriors jersey as soon as they become available – we’ve heard it will be around November 2026.
We’ll see you all here before 6pm on Saturday. Good luck in the draw and UP THE WAHS!
Kids’ Fishing Workshops – School Holiday Fun at the Clubrooms!
Get the kids outdoors these school holidays for a fun-filled fishing workshop with Nicky Wilson on Wednesday 7th October.
Children aged 5–8 years can join the morning session from 9:30am–12:00pm, while those aged 9–14 years can take part from 1:00pm–3:30pm.
The workshops are packed with fun and practical activities, including fish facts, knot tying, fishing tips, making flashers, casting, water safety and ocean caretaking — with plenty more along the way!
Tickets are $40 per child and include a goodie bag worth $50. Spaces are limited, so get the kids booked in for a great day of fishing, learning and fun!

Committee Elections
We have received 5 nominations for 3 available committee positions for the coming year. As there are more nominations than positions available, a vote will be required to determine the final three members of the committee. Voting is now underway as advised last week.

Prizegiving 26th September 5pm
Just a reminder that the Committee has decided that all trophies will continue to be presented to winners as normal at Prizegiving, along with their certificate. However, following the presentation, the trophies will remain on display in the Club’s new trophy cabinet for everyone to enjoy.
This will help preserve the Club’s history and achievements while allowing members and visitors to appreciate the wonderful trophies and the names of those who have won them.
Junior trophy winners will also receive a miniature trophy they can keep!
