FISHING

Fishing is generally going really well at the moment.  There are some good size snapper being caught in most popular spots including around the Whau Whau, Korapuki and also in the river.  There are also a few kingies being caught on the pins and reefs north of Red Mercury.  Out wide there have been a few marlin caught in the last week with the best areas being PBS Ltd CA Louis Wright and Crows Nest Apartments.  Since we had the big blow in the weekend, the blue water is a bit south of that and in the last few days fish have been caught in Hopper Construction.

Yesterday Warren George (Donk), fishing on Kawailani caught a 380.0kg blue marlin in Hopper Construction which is the heaviest fish weighed at the club since Mick Ellwood’s 393.8kg blue about 11 years ago.  This capped off a good fortnight for Kawailani after having tagged 7 stripeys in that time.  They’re now sitting on 9 marlin for the season so far.

TRISTRAM MARINE OPEN

This tournament is once again running in conjunction with the NZSFC Nationals and starts tomorrow.  We have an excellent weather forecast for at least the first half of the tournament so it’s going to be a good week.  You can enter this tournament and/or the Nationals at any time up to next Saturday.  Entry forms are available in the clubrooms or on our website   www.gamebase.co.nz
