Fishing Report
Nothing to report this week but good luck to all those fishing this weekend!
Congratulations to Nicola Candy who weighed in a 188.8kg Broadbill caught in sponsors grid Lifestyle Home Designs over the weekend. This broadbill is a Ladies Club Record on 37kg line, a Club Pin and a 5:1 fish. Nic will also receive the Paul Barrett Memorial Trophy if this fish is not super ceded before the end of June. Absolutely fantastic effort!
Grid Sponsors Draw thanks to the sponsors who were able to make the draw on Saturday it was great to see you all here at the Club. Richardsons Real Estate was the lucky drawn winner receiving her grid sponsorship refunded. The new sponsors grid will be available in a couple of weeks, before the new season starts on the 1st July.
MBGFC New Club Manager Announced
On Tuesday the Committee sent an email out to members announcing the appointment of Alan Proctor as our new Club Manager. Alan will commence the role on July 14th.
Alan will be well known to many of our members, having previously served as Club Manager. Alan brings extensive experience in club management, along with a strong passion for fishing and the important role it plays within both our club and the wider community. We look forward to the experience, enthusiasm and knowledge he will bring to the role.
Please join the committee in welcoming Alan to the role.
Winter Tuna Tournament – 4th July to 29th August 2026
Entries are now open for the 2026 Winter Tuna Tournament! Entry forms and tournament rules are available on the website CLICK HERE, from the Club Office, or at the bar.
We’re excited to welcome new sponsors The Stunned Mullet, OKUMA, BONZE Lures, Coastline Excavations, and PJ Builders, along with some new prize categories. The Heaviest Tuna winner will take home $3,000 plus 20% of the entry pool and a sponsor prize pack, with cash prizes awarded for 2nd–5th place. Prizes will also be awarded for the Heaviest Junior (U17) and Lady Angler Tuna. Optional sweepstake $50 average weight. Start getting the gear ready – the bluefin season is nearly here!
Bluefin Tuna Jigging Seminar – Tuesday 14th July 7.00pm
Have you saved the date? Fishing expert Kaz Otsubo from Ocean Legacy is coming to the Club on Tuesday 14th July for a special Bluefin Tuna Jigging Seminar.
Join us for an informative Bluefin Jigging Seminar with Kaz, one of New Zealand’s leading authorities on Southern Bluefin Tuna and night-time jigging techniques. Kaz will share his knowledge on jigging tactics, gear selection, setup tips, and strategies to help anglers improve their success on the water, followed by a Q&A session.
Held in conjunction with The Stunned Mullet, the evening will also feature a display of specialist rods, jigs, and equipment, with fishing gear available for purchase. The seminar runs from 7.00pm to approximately 9.00pm, with time afterwards to chat with Kaz and fellow anglers. Whether you’re new to Bluefin jigging or looking to refine your skills, this is an evening not to be missed.
Heaviest Hapuku Trophy Returns!
The Club, in conjunction with Longshore Marine, is pleased to bring back the Heaviest Hapuku Trophy for the season. While Hapuku doesn’t count towards Club points, this is a great opportunity to target one of our most sought-after deep-water species and compete for some silverware.
So dust off the deep-drop gear, gather your crew, and head offshore — the next trophy-winning Hapuku could be yours!
Volunteers Wanted – Property Maintenance Team
We are looking for a couple of members who may be willing to assist Scott Farrell our Property Manager with general maintenance and upkeep around the Club.
The commitment would be just a few hours once a fortnight, helping with a variety of tasks to keep our facilities looking their best and operating smoothly.
