FISHING

There have been a few more snapper and few kingies caught this week.  Some good snapper around the Mercury Islands and kingies just north of there.  There are still plenty of snapper being caught in the river for anyone who wants a feed but doesn’t want to head out in the forecasted bad weather.  Further out we had a couple of good days over the weekend with lots of marlin caught on Sunday.  Many of those that didn’t actually catch one, got a touch or saw something in their lures.  The consensus seems to be there may be plenty of fish out there but they’re not always that hungry.  The forecast isn’t that flash for the next couple of weeks but a few days may be quite fishable provided you don’t mind being thrown around a bit.

DAY MEMBER

As usual, we’ve had a number of our members take out friends or family members that are not club members and who go on to catch a fish.  Unfortunately these catches can’t be credited to the boat or skipper, or even worse, a national or world record may not be recognised.  If you are taking someone out that is likely to be on the rod at some stage, a day membership is just $15 per angler per day.  This needs to be organised and paid before heading out to fish.  Day membership forms are available from the bar or office and if the club is shut when you launch, our construction allows you to slip the form (and cash) under the clubroom door so your fish will be recognised that day.

TRISTRAM MARINE OPEN

This tournament is only a couple of weeks away now and the prizes are starting to roll in from our generous sponsors.  We’ve just sent out an update to everyone who fished this tournament last year and it is also on our website here.  It’s an 8 day tournament fished in conjunction with the NZSFC Nationals which is sponsored by First Mortgage Trust.  There’s bound to be a good weather window somewhere within those 8 days so please get your entries in asap.  If, for any reason the tournament cannot proceed, all entry money will be refunded but we will be doing out utmost to ensure it all goes ahead smoothly within the restrictions we need to work under.

CRC TRAILER BOAT TOURNAMENT

The tournament is a couple of weeks after the Tristram Marine Open and NZSFC Nationals but there is an early bird entry prize so you also need to consider getting entries in for this tournament.  This prize is not be sneezed at so take note -A Raymarine $10,000 Electronics Package.  There will also be a limited number of tournament shirts for early board entries.  This tournament also features cash prizes for each of 5 eligible species with Okuma fishing gear making up the rest of the prizes.
