FISHING

Pretty much the same news as last week.  Snapper fishing is really firing right now with plenty of fish being caught and they’re all in excellent condition.  Whilst the popular spots around the Mercury Islands, Centre Island and Ohinau are producing well, they’re also doing well with long lines off Cooks Beach and Wharekaho.  There are also a few mackies around the bay and people have been catching plenty of kahawai and john dory too.  If you’re happy to go out in these cooler mornings, the fishing really is going well.

SNAPPER TOURNAMENT

Due to be held on the Saturday of Queen’s Birthday weekend – next weekend.

Keep any eye on the weather, there’s certainly plenty of snapper around.  Only $20 entry fee and all money returned as cash prizes.  Entry forms on the bar, at the office or on our website.

SUPER RUGBY

This is the final round in the round robin.  Come down and watch your favourite team on the big screen.  We’ll be showing all games with NZ teams except the late one on Saturday night (Blues and Hurricanes).

JUNIORS

With the new season only a month away, I thought I’d clear up any confusion about the status of our junior members.  As far as membership of the club is concerned, if you are under 17yrs of age on July 1st, you only need to pay the junior membership cost to be a member of the club for the whole year.  However, during that year you must be under 17yrs on the day you catch a fish in order for that fish to be categorised as having been caught by a junior (for records and trophies).  Any fish caught by a “junior” member on or after their 17th birthday will be considered to have been caught by a senior member and will not be eligible for junior records or trophies.  Individual rules for tournaments will always take precedence.     Clear as mud! (Please ask us if you are still unsure).
